The Partner Family for the Griffinsburg Build |
![]() |
![]() The Streightiff family (Sonny, Cassie and their two daughters Cherokee, 4, and Honey, almost 2) have been selected as our partner family for the new Griffinsburg build. They are a great family and we are anxious to start building. The land was made possible by the generosity of Greg and Liz Yates, and the cooperation of one of our homeowners. It is a 3-acre parcel. Housing plans are being designed, and then the permit process begins. We are hoping to have the actual ground-breaking in August of 2011. We will need help of all kinds and volunteers to handle many aspects of the project. We are looking for donations of building materials as well as contract labor for electrical, plumbing, drywall, roofing and so forth. We are also looking for business partners to get involved, as part of a company workday, for example. It is a great way to have team building. We will need volunteers for fundraising, building planning and execution, volunteer coordination and lunch coordination at the jobsite, as well as other non-construction activities. Please contact us through this web site if you are interested in getting involved. Griffinsburg Home to Go Green. This build will be done with "green" materials. We will be using Structural Insulated Wall Panels (SIP) for the exterior walls and a conditioned crawl space for the foundation. Hopefully, this will result in a 50% reduction in heating and cooling costs over conventional building techniques. We will also be implementing other Earth Craft and Energy Star methods in our build. One of the advantages these panels offer is getting the house under a roof quickly, and the panels are very volunteer friendly. Come and get involved and learn about green building first hand. |
